Winston, Roxburgh Pace the Jaspers Past Fairfield to Open MAAC Play

RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Basketball team (4-5, 1-0 MAAC) rolls against the Stags of Fairfield University (5-4, 0-1 MAAC) by a score of 70-66 inside Draddy Gymnasium on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Coming off a pair of overtime efforts, the Jaspers got off to an early lead with Jaden Winston knocking down a floating jumper to open the conference season.
  • With a three-point lead, Winston knocked down another layup for a five-point lead before Fairfield added five straight points.
  • Trailing by one point midway through the first half, the Jaspers were trailing by one point before Fraser Roxburgh knocked down a driving layup to give the Green and White its third lead of the night.
  • Building off the one-point advantage, Manhattan added five straight points with Winston's scoop and score, followed by Erik Oliver-Bush's booming three to extend the Jaspers' lead to six.
  • In the second half, Manhattan continued right where it left off with Winston's scoop, following up with a pass to Fraser Roxburgh's three to make it a six-point edge once more.
  • Midway through the second half, Terrance Jones showed off his defensive prowess with another Jasper steal that found the basket for a game-high nine-point advantage that forced the Stags to take a timeout.
  • Later in the stanza, Winston again made waves by countering a Fairfield jump shot with a three-pointer to give Manhattan its second nine-point advantage.
  • Fairfield's comeback attempt to cut Manhattan's lead to just a single basket was unsuccessful after back-to-back three-pointers made things interesting. Still, it was not successful after the Jaspers sank home every free-throw attempted down the stretch.
