Pete Janny '22 has been hired as Director of Athletic Strategic Communications and Digital Media for the Athletic Department at Manhattan College. The announcement was made by Irma Garcia, Director of Athletics at Manhattan College.
"We are fortunate to be able to hire a person of Pete Janny's caliber," said Garcia. "Pete is a storyteller with incredible knowledge of our great tradition of Manhattan College. I look forward to working alongside Pete and watching him enhance our athletic communications and digital media so it benefits our student-athletes, coaches and Jasper Alumni."
Janny will be charged with leading the sports communication branch of the Manhattan Athletics Department serving as a liaison for all 17 Jasper varsity sports teams. This includes pitching and handling media requests, producing press releases, and implementing and executing a strategic plan around social media and the GoJaspers website. Additionally, Janny will help facilitate game day operations, including supporting the execution of game broadcasts.Â
Upon graduating from Manhattan in 2022 with a degree in business analytics and a communication minor, Janny worked full-time in the private sector as a client success specialist. Part time, he continued to serve as a sports freelance writer for the Riverdale Press. Janny's love of college hoops also led to him serving as a contributor to Daly Dose of Hoops, a college hoops blog started by Jaden Daly and based in the New York metropolitan area.Â
While writing for Daly Dose, Janny covered several Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference programs, including the Manhattan College men's basketball team. Janny also attended and reported on University of Connecticut games.
Janny previously served as sports editor for The Quadrangle, Manhattan College's student newspaper, from December 2019 through October 2021. During his time with the Quadrangle, Janny wrote or contributed to more than 150 stories and overcame the challenges of writing and pitching stories during the height of the pandemic.Â
In Fall 2020, Janny was hired as a student intern for the Riverdale Press. While writing for the Press, Janny reported on a variety of stories in sports, education, healthcare, business, and politics. He also assisted in the Press' copy-editing efforts on a weekly basis.Â
"I am beyond excited to return to my alma mater and work every day to promote the excellence and influence of Manhattan College Athletics. I am also very excited to be working for two, terrific college administrators such as Irma Garcia and Associate Athletic Director Anthony Kurtin," Janny said.
