Jaspers Drop Pair at Siena to Open MAAC Play

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Manhattan opened its MAAC schedule on Tuesday at Siena with a pair of games against the Saints.

Game 1: Siena 8, Manhattan 7
Manhattan (3-21, 0-1 MAAC) led 3-0, 4-3, 5-4, and 7-4 before Siena (17-8, 4-0) scored four in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with an 8-7 win in the first MAAC game for the Jaspers.

Anissa Villalobos and Gabriella Mazzotta singled home runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend the Jaspers' lead to 7-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, Siena scored its four runs without having a batter get retired. After the first two hitters reached on a single and a walk, Ava Fitzmaurice laced a triple into the right-center gap to score both and made it 7-6. Fitzmaurice slid into third just in front of the tag. Emma Peterson walked and stole second to put runners at second and third. When she singled down the left-field line, Angelina Stile brought in the tying and winning runs.

The Jaspers started the scoring at the top of the first with three runs. Kaitlyn Flood delivered an RBI double, and Megan Hedlund drove home two with a single up the middle. Hedlund now has three multi-RBI games this season.

Siena got two back in the bottom half of the first and tied the game at three with a run in the third.

Manhattan's run in the fourth came in on an error, and Lauren Rende plated Mazzotta with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Sophia Kiseloski started for the Jaspers and went six innings, allowing four earned runs. Mollie Charest was tagged with the loss after allowing the four seventh-inning runs.

Mazzotta finished game one 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Flood, Hedlund, and Lily Fish also had multi-hit games. Flood's hitting streak was extended to six games.

Game 2: Siena 10, Manhattan 1 (6 Innings)
Siena scored six runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to collect the sweep against Manhattan.

Ava Fitzmaurice drove in five runs in game two to follow up the pair she drove in game one. Fitzmaurice supplied the game-winning runs with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Saints' starter also drove in runs in the first and the fourth.

Shannon Bonewit drove in a pair for the Saints. Bonewit supplied the first homer of the game as part of the five-run fourth inning.

Manhattan's run came in the top fourth to tie the game at one. Kaitlyn Flood touched home on a double steal with one away in the frame.

Fitzmaurice collected the win for the Saints after tossing six innings. Makayla Veneziale allowed seven earned runs and took the loss for the Jaspers.

Flood extended her hitting streak to seven games with a single in the fourth.

Manhattan has a quick turnaround as it travels to Staten Island to play a doubleheader at Wagner on Wednesday starting at 1 p.m.
