NEWARK, N.J. - The Manhattan men's and women's cross country programs competed in the infamous Metropolitan Championships today at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J., where the women placed second overall.

Inman, Director of Cross Country and Track & Field. "They put themselves in the team title fight and competed boldly. We are very proud of the team effort and the many individual breakthroughs we saw today."
In a highly competitive field, Andria Scgalione placed second in the 5K, just 21 seconds behind first place to help lift the women to a runner-up finish. She raced to a time of 17:30.87, only the third person in school history to record a time of 17:30 or better.
Kylie Conroy ran a sub-19 time of 18:02.76 to finish in fifth place.
Nicola Scaglione's time of 18:15.24 placed her eighth overall.
Bailee Christofis (19:09.66) and
Bella Cannizzo (19:31.90) rounded out the top five scorers for the Jaspers.
"Men are putting the pieces together," Inman added. "I'm happy with the effort and the focus we've been developing. Still missing some key pieces, but the effort and desire are there."
Jared Lautenslager paced himself well to record a time of 24:47.68. His time was just four seconds behind first place as he recorded a runner-up finish.
Jaxon Newton raced to a time of 26:13.20 for a top-20 placing., while
Dean Mayo was right behind him with a time of 26:39.48.
Adam Guzman (26:59.98) and
Brendan Lucey (27:21.69) completed the top five finishers for Manhattan this morning.
