Indoor Track Season Resumes With a Pair of Meets

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – After a month away from competition, the Manhattan indoor track and field teams make their long-anticipated return to action in the new year, running in the MLK Tribute on Monday and the Ramapo Opener on Friday.

The MLK Tribute will be held on Staten Island, while the Ramapo Opener will take place at the Armory.

These will be the second and third meets of the young outdoor season, with the season beginning on December 3rd of last year at the Crowell open, hosted by Army West Point.

On the women's side, Andria Scaglione started the season with a strong showing, taking first place in the mile run and finishing in a time of 5:12.71. At the same meet, Kristin Stickdorn made her debut in the Green and White in two events, registering fifth in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw. Ava Kowal also made her track debut at Army, coming in third in the 800m, crossing the line in 2:42.31.

On the men's side, like Scaglione, Michael Hennelly saw his strong cross-country performance in the fall carry over to the indoor season. He finished second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:37.01. The 4x400 team of Brian Oduor, Jay Glenn, Harrison Alonzo, and Brian Shermar Saul brought home third place in the event with a time of 3:26.65.

RJ Decker picked up where he left off last year. Decker, who made it to NCAA Regionals last year, picked up a second-place finish in the weight throw with a best of 19.39m.
