Jaspers Participate in Tunnel To Towers Run

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Over the weekend, over 150 Manhattan student-athletes and staff participated in the yearly Tunnel To Towers 5k run.

The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk in New York City is held each year on the last Sunday of September. What began with 1,500 people in 2002 is now considered by many to be one of the top 5K runs in America.

The event symbolizes Stephen Siller's final footsteps from the foot of the Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. It pays homage to the 343 FDNY firefighters, law enforcement officers, and thousands of civilians who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The Jaspers' representation was spearheaded by the head coaches of both lacrosse teams, John Odierna and Jenna Dingler.

"Tunnel to Towers is a remarkable experience for our student-athletes," said Dingler "It's an impactful day that feels close to home for our program, given that Kathy Cunningham, head of Team Shamrock, has a daughter who played for us for four years - Kaitlyn Cunningham '16. Our team looks forward to this day every fall, and we know that their contribution to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and Team Shamrock goes a very long way."

"We're so grateful to be part of Team Shamrock and support their initiatives while also providing our student-athletes an incredibly rewarding Tunnel to Towers experience," said Odierna, "We feel that running the Tunnel to Towers is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to experience New York City and be part of something bigger than themselves. This event hits close to home for our Manhattan Lacrosse family, and we are so proud to be part of it every year!"

"Tunnel to Towers was a great opportunity to come together as a team and support a great cause. The experience was really moving, and although most of us aren't runners — the atmosphere made it hard not to." Said softball captain Kaitlyn Holly.

The Jaspers were part of a group of over 3000 runners who ran in the event.
