RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan department of athletics celebrated the 2021-22 athletic year with the Jasper Academic and Sports Performance Yearly Showcase, knowns as the J.A.S.P.Y.S., held Sunday in Draddy Gymnasium.
Organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the J.A.S.P.Y.S. honored Manhattan's student-athletes for their performances.
Sunday's festivities were hosted by News12 personality Pat O'Keefe, with co-host
Matthew Glassman of the men's basketball team.
Baseball's
David Bermudez was named Manhattan's Male Student-Athlete of the Year. The Female Student-Athlete of the Year went to
Dee Dee Davis of women's basketball.
This season, Bermudez has been named MAAC Player of the Week and was named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List. The award is given to the top shortstop in Division I each season. The shortstop leads Manhattan in average, slugging, runs scored, hits, RBI, doubles, home runs, and total bases so far this season.
Davis was named First Team All-MAAC and Second Team All-Met after helping the Jaspers reach the MAAC Championship Game for the first time since 2007. Davis scored her 1,000
th career point in the quarterfinals of the MAAC Championships against Canisius.
