Riverdale, NY - With the cancellation of spring sports for the 2020 campaign, Manhattan Athletics has changed its ATAX Student-Athletes of the Week segment to an ATAX Senior Spotlight. Moving forward, seniors from all of Manhattan's spring sports will be featured three times a week.
Today's spotlight highlights
Isabel Shirron (Arlington, VA / Bishop Ireton) and
Carra Toner (Bel Air, MD / C. Milton Wright) from the women's rowing team.
Shirron was a member of the women's rowing team all four years, and joined the staff as a student assistant this past season. As a sophomore, she was a member of the Varsity Four outfit that won the petite final at the MAAC Championship by a margin of nearly 30 seconds.
"Isabel found the best in tough situations," said Head Coach
Alex Canale. "She battled through injury for years, ultimately making the transition from rower to student coach."
Toner joined the program as a sophomore, and served as the cox of the Varsity Four this year. In the fall, she helped the Jaspers to gold at the Fall Metropolitan Championship in the Varsity Four.
"Carra is very versatile, competing as a rower and a coxswain," said Canale. "Carra found her voice and direction this year and while she was denied the opportunity to showcase that this spring, she was the life of our last team practice."
