Riverdale, NY - With the cancellation of spring sports for the 2020 campaign, Manhattan Athletics has changed its ATAX Student-Athletes of the Week segment to an ATAX Senior Spotlight. Moving forward, seniors from all of Manhattan's spring sports will be featured three times a week.
We start the week by spotlighting
Alexis Calderon (Bethlehem, PA / Liberty) and
Caitie Pluta (Sykesville, MD / Century) from women's lacrosse.
Calderon made on appearance this past year, pitching an inning of relief at Central Connecticut State. For his career, he struck out 43 in 52.1 innings of action over 34 games while limiting opposing hitters to a .263 average.
"Alexis did a nice job in the bullpen throughout his career," said Head Coach
Mike Cole. "He also was extremely successful in the classroom, graduating with honors, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward."
Pluta played in one game this past spring, making six saves against Drexel. For her career, Pluta saw action in eight games, including seeing time between the pipes in wins over Presbyterian, Sacred Heart, Saint Mary's and Wofford.
"Caitie was truly the voice of this team, and consistently offered great insight and positivity to her teammates," said Head Coach
Jenna Dingler. "She is the energy in every room, and her passion and love of the game was contagious. Her light-hearted spirit will truly be missed.
