Riverdale, NY – With the cancellation of spring sports for the 2020 campaign, Manhattan Athletics has changed its ATAX Student-Athletes of the Week segment to an ATAX Senior Spotlight. Moving forward, seniors from all of Manhattan's spring sports will be featured twice a week.
Today's spotlight shines on
Hailey Siemek (Bel Air, MD / John Carroll) from the women's lacrosse team and
Reid Martin (Buffalo, NY / Canisius) from the men's lacrosse team.
A four-year starter, Siemek has been one of the leaders of the Jasper defense from the moment she set foot on campus, and recently collected her 100th career ground ball in Manhattan's 9-7 win over Sacred Heart. Siemek finished the year with a team-best 19 ground balls and was 12th nationally with 2.0 forced turnovers per game.
"Hailey played with such an intense and contagious passion on the field, as her will and want to compete and win led her to be an incredible defender," said Head Coach
Jenna Dingler. "A relentless and gritty player that never gave up and did anything to push her teammates to the next level, Hailey got the job done, no questions asked. Our program as a whole benefited from her hard work, and we are beyond grateful for everything she did as a Jasper."
A four-year member of the program, Martin has played in 37 games, making nine starts, and registered 10 goals, three assists and 21 ground balls. He made an immediate impact in Riverdale, finding the back of the net in thrilling overtime wins against Hartford and Wagner early in his career.
"Reid has been an awesome teammate in his four-year career at Manhattan," said Head Coach
Drew Kelleher. "He has a great work ethic and attitude that we will miss."
