Indianapolis, IN - Manhattan distance runner
Amir Khaghani has been selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA). The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Khaghani, who graduated this month with a double-major in accounting and business analytics, was one of 10 student-athletes picked to the NCAA Division I District 1 Team. He earned a cumulative 3.99 grade point average during his time as a Jasper, and won the 2019 Jasper Award, the Athletic Department's prize for the top scholar among its senior student-athletes.Â
Khaghani was the Jaspers' top male finisher at the 2018 MAAC Cross Country Championships, earning 12th place overall and All-MAAC accolades for the second time in his career. He finished the 2019 outdoor track and field season with a fifth-place showing in the men's 10,000-meters at the MAAC Championships, and seventh place in the 5,000-meters at the Metropolitan Championships. Khaghani was top-10 in the 3,000-meters at the MAAC Indoor Championships this past February, as well as fourth place overall in the event at the indoor Met Championships.Â
As a First-Team Academic All-District honoree, Khaghani will advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. First-, Second- and Third-Team (when selected) Academic All-America honorees will be announced in June.Â
