Piscataway, NJ - Enrique Martinez (San Salvador, El Salvador / Barton CC) won the Metropolitan Championship in the men's hammer throw Friday, April 12, hitting a distance of 59.04 meters. The Jaspers earned a 1-2-3 sweep of the event, as
Nicholas Kocienda (Seaford, NY / Seaford) won second place with a 54.22-meter throw, and
Eric Waugh claimed third with a distance of 50.24-meters.Â
Highlights:
- The Manhattan men sit in first place after day one of Mets competition, scoring 53 points. The Manhattan women are in fourth place with 24 points, behind Fordham, St. John's and Rutgers.
- Nina Bjorkman (Vasteras, Sweden / Widenska Idrottsgymnasium) took second in the women's hammer throw, hitting 51.93-meters in the event.Â
- For the second-straight year, Elizabeth Reid (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Lanape) earned second in the women's pole vault. She reached a height if 2.85 meters, improving on her 2018 Mets outdoor pole vault by nearly 0.3 meters.Â
- Nick Matson (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa) won second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 9:44.56. Running in the event for the first time, freshman Aidan Donohue (Rockaway Park, NY / Xavier) took fourth with a time of 9:52.36. Jack Consolini (Darien, CT / Darien) finished in fifth, recording a time of 10:09.70, a personal best.
- Samantha Hoagland (Colt's Neck, NJ / Colt's Neck) placed sixth in the 10,000-meters with a time of 41:01.86. On the men's side, Chris Emerson (Westbury, NY / Kellenberg Memorial) placed fifth in the event with a time of 33:57.87, a personal record.Â
- Tim Iannuzzo (East Brunswick, NJ / St. Joseph) placed fourth in the javelin, throwing a distance of 56.86 meters. Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) earned fifth place on the women's side, hitting a personal best of 39.27 meters. Teammate Megan Haugh (Metuchen, NJ / Metuchen) also marked a personal best in the event, hitting 36.75-meters, good for eighth place.
- Competing in the decathlon, Tim Youtkus (Basking Ridge, NJ / Ridge) earned the top slot in the shot put with a distance of 12.28 meters, a personal record.Â
