Daniel Sullivan '71 joins the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame as a part of the class of 2019 following an illustrious cross country and track and field career as both a student-athlete and a coach.
During his cross country career, Sullivan became the first and to this day the only student-athlete in Manhattan to qualify for the NCAA meet three-straight years. He also won two Metropolitan Intercollegiate titles and helped the Jaspers to a pair of undefeated seasons.
On the track, Sullivan also led Manhattan to four Metropolitan Intercollegiate titles, while competing in the Championship of America Distance Medley.
Following his competitive career with the Jaspers, Sullivan would return to Riverdale to coach the women's cross country and track and field teams. In 1986, he led the cross country team to the school's first MAAC Championship and first Metropolitan title. Sullivan also oversaw the program's first-ever MAAC Indoor Championship in 1991, and aided in the development of three ECAC Champions and the first-ever NCAA qualifier in outdoor track and field.
After leaving Riverdale, Sullivan continued his coaching and teaching careers at the high school level, where he produced several New York State Champions.
Sullivan graduated from Manhattan with a degree in English.
