Hadley, MA - Manhattan women's rowing opened up the program's third year in style with a pair of impressive performances at the Hadley Chase on the Connecticut River this past Saturday and the Head of the Passaic Regatta on Sunday.
Hadley Notes:
* In the Novice 4+ category the Jasper boat of three freshmen and two sophomores posted a time of 19:55, ahead of Fairfield's 24:01 to win the event and capture the Hadley Pumpkin trophy.
* Competitors at the meet included MAAC Rivals Marist and Fairfield, as well as Dartmouth, UConn, UMass and other local programs.
* In the strong 28-boat field, the Jaspers 1V4+ and 2V4+ finished in 18th (19:07) and 19th (19:09), respectively.
* Later in the day, the 1V8+ placed 18th in the field of 26 boats in a time of 17:27 behind Marist B (17:13) and ahead of Fairfield A (17:50) and B (17:55), marking the first time in program history that the Jaspers bested the Stags while racing 8's.
Hadley Line-Ups
Head of the Passaic Regatta Notes
* The Jasper 1V4+ and 2V4+ finished 3rd and 4th, respectively, behind Vassar and Iona while besting TCNJ and NYU.
* In the afternoon the Varsity 8 race was dominated by the Jaspers with two 8's in the event finishing first (15:51) and third (16:40) with each boat besting MAAC rival Iona (17:19).
* The weekend events marked Manhattan's first time out on the water for the fall of 2018, and a great tune up for next weekend's Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.
* Standout performances were turned in by Varsity 8 returners

Allison Eichhorn (Jr., Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown),
Elizabeth McCabe (Jr., Alexandria, VA / Bishop Ireton),

* New to the Varsity 8 lineup are
Ella O'Brien (So., Hadley, MA / Hopkins Academy),
Jillian Rider (Sr., Buffalo, NY / Iroquois) and freshman
Emily Hughes, while the boat was steered by classmate
Elyse Holmes.
* Holmes, Hughes and classmate
Lauryn Hughes, along with sophomore
Kerry Brosnan and freshman
Nadine Salameh, collected their first wins as Manhattan rowers in the Hadley Chase Novice 4.
* Juniors
Maura Mead (Columbia, MD / Howard) and
Jaclyn Leighton (Wilkes-Barre, PA / Holy Redeemer) doubled up on Sunday, racing to third place finishes in the 4+ and the 8+.
