Manhattan Launches Jasper Jumpstart Program for Student-Athletes

Riverdale, NY - The Manhattan College Athletic Department has announced the beginning of the Jasper Jumpstart initiative for the 2017-2018 academic year.
 
Jasper Jumpstart is a comprehensive student-athlete success program designed to help student-athlete development. The initiative encompasses four main areas: student-athlete orientation, academic support, life skills and health and wellness. The overall goals of the program are to promote success in the classroom as well as a positive lifestyle.

"This program will prepare our student-athletes for the rigors of Manhattan College and give them a 'jumpstart' on their path to success in the classroom and in life," said Senior Athletic Advisor Rory Redmond.
 
Jumpstart is a development program, which begins with Orientation and continues through graduation and is tailored to all student-athletes. The students will begin the Jumpstart program during their first week at the college and be provided academic support, time management strategies and identification of on-campus resources.
 
The academic support portion of the program seeks to provide additional to student-athletes by increasing the availability for tutoring hours, improving the student-academic advisor ratio and further developing academic success.
 
Student-athletes will be given more opportunities to enhance their life skills through a series of workshops that focus on financial & career planning along with character development and leadership. These workshops will form a partnership with the Manhattan College Student-Athlete Advisory Council and other departments on campus.

The program will also secure consultants to assist student-athletes in the areas of health and wellness by providing access to a sports psychologist, nutritionist and educational information.
