Riverdale, NY - Legendary Track & Field athlete and coach Matt Centrowitz will speak about his new book, "Like Father, Like Son: My Story on Running, Coaching and Parenting" in Miguel Hall room 311 tomorrow, October 13 at 3:00 pm.
Centrowitz competed at Manhattan College before transferring to the University of Oregon. A two-time Olympian and four-time United States champion as an athlete, he then started coaching cross country and track & field at the collegiate level.
His daughter Lauren and son Matthew Jr. are also accomplished distance runners. Lauren competed for Stanford University and qualified for the Olympic Trials in 2012 while Matthew Jr ran for Oregon. In 2016, Matthew Jr. won gold in the 1500 meters at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro while becoming the first United States runner to win the event since 1908.
Fans are invited to attend the speech on what promises to be an exciting day of cross country. Both the Manhattan teams will be in action at the annual Metropolitan Cross Country Championship that will be held at Van Cortlandt Park. Tomorrow's 5K women's race will begin at 1:30 pm with the men's five mile race slated for 2:00 pm.
In conjunction with Centrotwitz's speech will be the 45th annual Manhattan College High School Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, October 14 at 9:00 am at Van Cortlandt Park.
