RIVERDALE, NY – After leading the Manhattan College men's cross country team to its first Metropolitan Championship in 15 years, sophomore Amir Khaghani (Bethesda, MD) has been selected Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Runner of the Week. Khaghani finished third to lead four Jaspers in the top 10, as Manhattan earned its first team title since 2001.
Khaghani completed the 8000-meter Van Cortlandt Park course in 26:24.3. His third-place showing was the best individual finish by a Manhattan runner at Mets since Tyler Raymond also took third in 2005.
He becomes the second Jasper to earn MAAC Runner of the Week honors this season, joining Nick Matson (Clifton Park, NY), who was selected on Sept. 14. In addition, Kaitlyn Smith (Effort, PA) was chosen on the women's side on Sept. 28.
This weekend, the Jaspers will compete in a pair of meets. Manhattan takes part in the UAlbany Invitational on Saturday and the SJU Fall Festival on Sunday. Those meets represent the Jaspers' last competition before the MAAC Championships in Orlando, FL, on Oct. 29.
