Four Jaspers Named to 35th Anniversary All-MAAC Team

RIVERDALE, NY – As a part of the league's 35th anniversary celebration, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has named its men's and women's all-time teams for fall sports.  Four former Manhattan College student-athletes were honored.  Sean Lynch '98 (Cross Country) and Luka Van Cauteren '04 (Volleyball) were named to the first team, while Matt Spring '03 (Cross Country) and Margaret McParland '97 (Cross Country) were second team selections.

Lynch won the individual title at both the MAAC and IC4A Championships in 1997.  He then finished third at the 1997 NCAA Northeast Regional, becoming the first Jasper in 15 years to qualify for the NCAA Championships.  Lynch was third at both the Metropolitan and MAAC Championships in 1996, and took eighth at the 1994 MAAC Championships.

Van Cauteren led the Jaspers to consecutive MAAC championships in 2002 and 2003.  She was named MAAC Player of the Year and MAAC Tournament MVP in both seasons, as Manhattan earned its first two conference titles.  The only player in program history with 1,000 kills and 1,000 assists, Van Cauteren also holds school records for career hitting percentage (.310) and triple-doubles (32).  She became the first volleyball player ever inducted into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015.

Spring was named Most Outstanding Performer at the 2001 MAAC Championships after taking the individual crown in a time of 25:21.86.  The Jaspers tied Iona for the team title that season, marking the only time since 1991 that the Gaels weren't the outright champions.  Spring also finished first at the Metropolitan and IC4A Championships in 2001, and he placed 10th at the 2001 NCAA Northeast Regional.

McParland earned two MAAC individual titles and was a part of three MAAC Championship teams (1993-94, 1996) during her time in Riverdale.  After winning back-to-back MAAC crowns in 1994-95, she placed second at the 1996 MAAC Championships.  McParland was also the individual winner at both the Metropolitan and ECAC Championships in 1995.

A total of 49 student-athletes from the conference's current and former members were recognized.  Manhattan has been a part of the MAAC since the league's founding in 1980.
