RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Former NBA player and motivational speaker Chris Herren spoke to Manhattan College's student-athletes at Draddy Gymnasium on Tuesday, August 26, delivering a powerful, impactful story about his life.
"We were absolutely thrilled that Chris Herren was able to visit us and share his story with our student-athletes," said Noah D. LeFevre, Manhattan's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "He is a powerful force with a wonderful message that all those in attendance will be able to benefit from for many years to come. I cannot thank him enough for being here."
Herren's path from a promising high school basketball standout to his struggles with substance abuse was chronicled in "Unguarded", a 2011 30 for 30 ESPN Films documentary released in 2011. Herren has been sober for more than six years and recently completed the 2014 Boston Marathon in his home state.
