RIVERDALE, N.Y. – For the second straight year, the Manhattan College women's swimming team has received an APR Public Recognition Award from the NCAA. The Public Recognition Award is presented annually to the teams that finish ranked among the top 10 percent nationally in the multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) in each sport.
The Jaspers were one of 976 squads nationwide, including 594 women's programs, to receive the award. Manhattan has had at least one team recognized in each of the eight years since the NCAA began collecting APR data.
The APR is the NCAA's real-time measure of academic success of its student-athletes. Every program in the nation is tracked, with factors such as graduation rates, eligibility and retention factored into the rating. Final APRs are a numeric value, and teams that don't reach a certain threshold could face NCAA penalties. The most recent multi-year APR data includes the 2008-09 thru 2011-12 school years.
The NCAA will announce the full multi-year APRs for all sports on June 11.
