RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College Director of Athletics Robert Byrnes has announced the promotion of Doug Straley to Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine effective immediately. Straley earned the appointment after serving as the department's Director of Sports Medicine since 2003. He will continue to oversee the sports medicine department and medical staff.
"Doug has been a key contributor to the success of our athletic department over the last six years, so this new title is well deserved," stated Byrnes. "His hard work and dedication to providing the best athletic training support to Manhattan College student-athletes has allowed us to compete at the highest level of collegiate athletics. Doug is a valued member of our athletic staff and in the college community."
Straley supervises the athletic training of the 300+ student-athletes who compete for Manhattan's 19 Division I athletic teams. During his tenure, Straley has managed the training services for 34 MAAC Championship teams: men's & women's track & field (23), men's tennis (4), men's basketball (2), women's lacrosse (2), women's basketball (1), baseball (1), volleyball (1). Most notably, Straley provided support to the 2003-04 men's basketball team that upset Florida in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, the Jaspers' baseball team that advanced to the NCAA Regional Finals, and numerous NCAA Track & Field participants.
Straley is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and National Strength and Conditioning Association. He holds Athletic Training licenses in New York, Massachusetts, and Georgia. Straley is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, as an Athletic Trainer, as well as in CPR and First Aid. A 1998 graduate of Northeastern University, Straley received a Master of Science degree in athletic training from the University of Chattanooga.
