RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Darryl Crawford shot 9-for-13 from the field to lead the Jaspers with 21 points en route to a 99-50 home victory over Mercy College in the final exhibition of the preseason. Rico Pickett contributed 14 points and tied a game-high with seven rebounds, while freshman George Beamon added 10 points and seven boards coming off the bench. Manhattan's next test is the season opener versus NJIT on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Draddy Gymnasium.
Manhattan cruised into intermission with a 48-27 advantage shooting a hot 51.2% from the floor. Jasper seniors Brandon Adams, Antoine Pearson and junior Andrew Gabriel combined for 9-for-10 shooting in the opening stanza. Gabriel and Pearson each finished with nine points and Adams had six. The Jaspers went inside for 32 of their 48 first half points and scored 52 points in paint during the contest.
The Jaspers' got defensive in the second half and the bench got more involved. Manhattan held Mercy to just 23 points by limiting the Mavericks to just 23% from the field. Sophomore center Djibril Coulibaly added eight points and Kevin Laue posted six points as the Jaspers' reserves outscored Mercy 47-17. Coulibaly and Laue each had six rebounds. Junior center Laurence Jolicoeur was also a bright spot off the bench as he finished with five points and seven boards.
Manhattan crashed the glass hard upending Mercy 61-29 in the rebounding. The Jaspers' were efficient from downtown converting 5-of-12 3-point field goals, an improvement from their 10-for-28 shooting from 3-point range in their last exhibition versus Kean University.
