Riverdale, N.Y. (February 28, 2007)--Both the Manhattan men's and women's cross country teams earned NCAA Division I Academic All-American status for their efforts this past fall on the course and in the classroom, it was recently announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
“I am delighted to see both our men's and women's teams on this list as they continue the fine tradition of athletics and academics our program has produced over the years,” said head coach Dan Mecca.
To be honored as an All-Academic Team, teams were required to compete in an NCAA regional meet and have at least a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
With a GPA of 3.273 at the conclusion of fall semester, the Manhattan women were one of an impressive 145 teams to receive the honor for the 2006 season. Freshman Lindsay Southard, junior Eryka Perreault, freshman Mary Consiglio, sophomore Sarah Rogers, sophomore Melissa Trauscht, sophomore Lauren Natoli, and sophomore Julie Carr comprised the group of Manhattan finishers at the NCAA Northeast Region Championships this past fall, making the squad eligible for the award. In addition to contributing to the team's finish at the meet, Trauscht joined four other Lady Jasper harriers (sophomores Kathleen Bayer, Angela Bernarde, Ellen Dobbin, and Jess Hamm) in earning MAAC All-Academic honors.
The men's squad posted a team GPA of 3.126 to earn the accolade.

John Mueller represented Manhattan at the regional meet.
Raymond, McElhoney, and Breslin were also named to the MAAC All-Academic team for their efforts during the season.
