Boston, Mass. (November 10, 2007) ? With all six of its runners setting personal records, the Manhattan College cross country team finished 19th overall at the NCAA Regionals Cross Country Championship.
“This overall team performance was a great improvement over past years' performances at the regionals and is a credit to our young cross country runners who have gotten better and better as the cross country season has progressed,” said Dan Mecca, head coach of the cross country and track and field programs at Manhattan. Mecca pointed out that the performance was turned in by his freshmen and sophomores.
The Jasper's were led by freshman Tobias Lundgren, who ran a personal best 31:14 over the 10K course at Franklin Park, to finish in 55th place. Just a second behind in 56th place was Milos Vuckovic, who ran a personal best 31:15. Other scorers for Manhattan were freshman Zack who ran a personal best of 32:47; sophomore Scott Roman, who ran a personal best of 33:17; sophomore Matt Kaftanski, who ran a personal record of 33:18 and freshman Bredan Brethel, who ran a personal best of 34:05.
“I am tremendously proud of the men ? as well as the women's team which also took 19th overall in the Regionals,” Mecca noted. In all, 37 Division 1 teams from New York to Maine took part in the meet.
