MANHATTAN COLLEGE COMMUNITY SADDENED BY PASSING OF JOHN DALY, VICE PRESIDENT FOR FINANCE

Riverdale, N.Y. (January 9, 2007)?The Manhattan College community is saddened to announce the passing of Mr. John Daly, the college's Vice President for Finance.  Daly, who passed away suddenly early in the morning on January 8, served Manhattan for 20 years.

 

Daly, who was an avid supporter of athletics both at Manhattan and within the community, collapsed while coaching his son Jack in a local CYO basketball game and later died.  Daly coached numerous CYO basketball teams as well as baseball in Kingsbridge Little League, where he spearheaded the drive for their new field last spring.

 

“All of us in the Manhattan College Athletic Department are extremely grateful for John's immeasurable support and love over the past 20 years,” said Manhattan Athletic Director Robert J. Byrnes '68.  “To meet and know John was to love him.  We are all saddened by this sudden loss.  Our prayers and support will continue to go out to Liz, Jack, and Matthew.”

 

Daly is survived by his wife of 12 years, Elizabeth, and two sons, Jack (11) and Matthew (9).

 

A wake for Daly will be held at Bennett Funeral Home in Scarsdale, N.Y.  Visitation hours are 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10 as well as 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11.  On Friday, January 12, a Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Scarsdale, N.Y.
