WOMEN'S CREW PLACES SIXTH, MEN FIFTH AT MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

West Windsor, NJ - The women's crew team finished sixth, while the men's squad placed fifth at the 2005 MAAC Rowing Championships. The Marist men's team and the Loyola women's team retained their respective crowns by winning the Championships, held at Mercer Lake.

In the women's competition, Loyola took top honors for the second straight season with 133 points. Marist College finished second with 133 points, followed by Fairfield University (65.5), Canisius College (34), Iona College (15.75), Manhattan College (11) and Niagara University (1).

On the men's side, Marist took home its eighth league title with a total of 120 points. Loyola was the runner-up with 99 points. Fairfield finished in third place (59), followed by Iona (18) and Manhattan (2).

The Marist men won each of the five events in which it was entered, with Loyola earning a victory in the Men's Pair and the Novice Lightweight 4+.

On the women's side, the Greyhounds won the Novice 8, Women's Pair and Varsity Lightweight 4+. The Lady Jasper's earned a second place in the women's pair finishing in 9:04.85.

Five Jaspers earned MAAC All-Academic honors this season for being of sophomore status and keeping a high grade point average while excelling athletically. The men earning this honor were Sean Nugent, Antoine Samuda and Kevin O'Shea. Christina Deicidue and Melissa Lynch were the women named to the 2005 New York Lottery MAAC All-Academic Team.
