Saratoga Springs, NY (October 30, 2004)- The men and women's crew teams competed at the 2004 Head of the Fish today held in Saratoga Springs, NY. The top rowers were seniors Rich Kakol, Augustine Honore, junior Thomas McGrail and freshman Dennis O'Connell. The group placed seventh in the Men's Lightweight 4+ finishing in a time of 16:46.30 with junior Christina Bergonzo as the coxswain.
In the Men's Novice 4+ final junior Roland Varriale, sophomore Kevin O'Shea, freshman Michael Vaccarello, and Honore finished 19th out of 33 teams with a time of 16:17.12 with McGrail as the coxswain. While, seniors Sean Nugent, Martin Walker, junior Rich Rinelli and sophomore Antoine Samuda with coxswain Vergo finished 34th crossing the finish line in 16:32.83 in the Men's Open race.
The women's boat competed in the Women's Open competition finishing 29th. The coxswain was junior Bergonzo leading senior Megan Roe, juniors Vergo, Melissa Lynch and Emily Guedes. They completed the race in 16:46.86. The last race Manhattan competed in was the Women's Open Championship 8 race. The coxswain was Vergo with rowers Roe, Bergonzo, Guedes, Lynch, juniors Christina Diecidue, Danielle Moreau, and freshman Allison Huza. The women finished 24th with a time of 15:04.54.
The Jaspers compete again on Saturday, November 6 at the Dowling Alumni Regatta in Oakdale, NY at 9 a.m.
