MAAC Release
Edison, NJ - Junior goalkeeper
Nikki Prestiano (Yorktown Heights, NY / Yorktown) has been selected as the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for the Week of April 16.
Â
Prestiano picks up Manhattan's first weekly honor of the season and her third career Defensive Player of the Week award. She previously won it almost a year ago on April 17, 2017.
The netminder was crucial in the Jaspers' 2-0 week against Iona and Siena. On Wednesday, April 11, Prestiano denied the Gaels 16 times, including a save with a one-goal lead and 16 seconds left in the second half, and allowed just seven goals in an 8-7 road victory. She followed up that performance with nine more saves versus the Saints, moving into 4th place all-time on Manhattan's career saves list with 383 stops. She finished the week with 25 saves, a .610 save percentage and an 8.21 goals-against average.
On the season, Prestiano has compiled 124 saves for a .469 save percentage, good for a 10.70 goals-against average. She has collected nine saves in four of her last five contests.
The Jaspers (5-9 | 2-4 MAAC) continue their push for a playoff spot on Wednesday, April 18 as they host Monmouth (5-9 | 3-2 MAAC) at 4:00 pm.
