Edison, NJ – Led by preseason All-MAAC selection senior
Erica Modena (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa), the Manhattan Women's Soccer team was slated to finish seventh in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) by the league's 11 head coaches.
Modena Breakdown
A three-time All-MAAC selections, Modena enters her final year with 23 goals and seven assists … Second Team All-MAAC selection a year ago after notching four goals and two assists … Drilled two game-winning scores … First Team All-MAAC selection in 2015 and a Second Team pick in 2013.
Defending MAAC Champion Monmouth earned 10 first-place votes en route to registering 120 points and was picked to again win the league title.
Quinnipiac garnered the remaining first-place vote in finishing second with 101 points.
Rider (96) was third, followed by Siena (95) in fourth, Marist (71) in fifth, Canisius (57) in sixth and Manhattan (53) in seventh.
Rounding out the poll was Fairfield (51), Niagara (46), Iona (25) and Saint Peter's (11).
Joining Modena in the Preseason All-MAAC lineup at forward is Canisius' Gretta Dry, Marist's Camille Bowen, Monmouth's Madie Gibson and Rider's Ellie Smith. The midfielders are Monmouth's Rachelle Ross, Quinnipiac's Nadya Gill, Siena's Michele Tremblay and Madison Vasquez. Monmouth's Gabriella Cuevas, Rider's Meghan McCabe, Siena's Amanda Holtzman and Hanna Longendyke were selected to the team at back. Monmouth's Amanda Knaub rounds out the team at goalkeeper.
Gibson earned the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year honor after she claimed the 2016 MAAC Rookie of the Year award.
The 2017 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship takes places from October 28-November 1 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, FL. All 11 MAAC teams compete in the championship for the chance to be named the 2017 MAAC Women's Soccer Champion.
